A Visit to SABIC: Teesside’s Global Impact

I had a brilliant visit to SABIC, where I had the opportunity to chat with Site Director Jos Visser and take a tour of their impressive site. It was great to be back and see the sheer scale of their operations.

I was amazed to learn how many everyday products are made right here in Teesside at Wilton. For instance, every single iPhone in the world contains materials manufactured locally – it’s incredible to think our industry has such a far-reaching global impact.

SABIC is a key part of our community, employing over 500 local staff and more than 500 contractors, contributing £400 million to our local economy annually. It was inspiring to see the opportunities they are creating for people in the area and to hear about their exciting plans for the future.

Their commitment to transitioning to low-carbon manufacturing and expanding their presence on Teesside is fantastic news for the region. I look forward to supporting them as they continue to innovate and grow.

A big thank you to Jos and the SABIC team for such a warm welcome. It’s fantastic to see Teesside leading the way in innovation, making a significant impact both locally and globally.

Thank you,
