Visit to Material Evolution in South Bank

It was fantastic to visit Material Evolution in South Bank and see the ground breaking work they’re doing with cement.

When we talk about emissions, cement isn’t often the first thing that comes to mind. However, it’s the second most used commodity in the world after water, and the production of cement contributes a staggering 8% of global carbon emissions.

Right here in Redcar & Cleveland, this innovative company has developed a cement that produces 85% less CO2 emissions, with ambitious plans for the future to create a carbon-negative cement product.

It was inspiring to hear that the founders chose to move up north to tap into our area’s rich industrial heritage, skilled workforce, and expertise. This is exactly the kind of innovation we can lead on here in Redcar & Cleveland, showcasing how our community can be at the forefront of the green industrial revolution.

Under a Labour government, businesses like Material Evolution will be supported to drive forward green technologies, boost jobs, and help us meet our climate commitments, all while strengthening our local economy.

A huge thank you to the team at Material Evolution for showing me around, If you would like to learn more please visit https://materialevolution.com/ultra-low-carbon-cement/
