World Leading Innovation in South Bank and Redcar and Cleveland!

The Materials Processing Institute (MPI), based in TS6, has achieved a world-leading breakthrough for clean energy! They’ve successfully created the UK’s first batch of a special steel needed to build the power plants of the future.

This cutting-edge steel will be used in nuclear fusion – an exciting new energy source. It’s cleaner, safer, and could one day provide unlimited low-carbon electricity!

MPI produced 5.5 tonnes of this high-tech steel using their state-of-the-art facilities in South Bank, helping make this game-changing technology more affordable and efficient.
