Taking Action on Leukaemia in Redcar & Cleveland

Last week, I attended Leukaemia UK’s parliamentary event for World Cancer Day 2025, highlighting the urgent need for earlier diagnosis, better treatment, and greater investment in cancer care.

In Redcar & Cleveland, 30 people have lost their lives to leukaemia in the past five years, with survival rates still below the national average. Every life lost is one too many—we need urgent action.

I’ve met with Health Secretary Wes Streeting multiple times since being re-elected, to discuss how we can transform cancer care and get our NHS back on its feet. That’s why Labour will be using the new ‘Fit For the Future’ fund to double the number of CT and MRI scanners, helping the NHS detect cancer earlier and save lives.
