Visit to Middlesbrough College

It was great to visit Middlesbrough College yesterday and witness first hand the incredible work they are doing to ensure our young people have every opportunity to succeed in life.

The college is a first rate facility that we are fortunate to have in our region.

The day began with a tour of TTE, formerly based in South Bank and now an integral part of Middlesbrough College. It was fantastic to see how it has gone from strength to strength, equipping our young people with the skills they need to excel in a wide variety of industries. Facilities like this are essential in building the workforce of the future, and Labour remains committed to investing in skills and training that open up pathways to good jobs for all.

Next, I visited the Health and Social Care department, where so much inspiring work is happening. From maternity training to preparing the next generation of A&E nurses and paramedics , to adult social care training, each section is set up to replicate real-life scenarios. This practical, hands-on approach ensures that students are ready to step straight into their roles in critical sectors like healthcare and social care, which Labour is determined to support and strengthen for the future.

The performing arts department was another highlight, with its impressive theatre and stage currently being set for a student production of Aladdin. This facility is nurturing talent in an industry facing shortages in roles such as lighting and sound operations and prop-making. It’s brilliant to see such comprehensive training being offered here, giving students the opportunity to thrive in creative industries.

Middlesbrough College is a shining example of how investment in education and skills can transform lives and drive our local economy. Labour will always champion opportunities like these for young people and support institutions that are at the heart of our communities.
