Tees Valley MPs meet with Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonny Reynolds to discuss investment in the region after a huge week for Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool

ree

Last week marked a historic moment for Teesside, Darlington, and Hartlepool, as the new Labour Government secured a series of landmark agreements to boost investment, create thousands of jobs, and cement the region's role at the forefront of the UK's green industrial revolution.

The centre piece of these announcements was the signing off of the largest single investment in Teesside’s History by this new Labour Government. The signing off on £4 billion of investment in carbon capture and storage for Teesside will directly support 2,000 jobs on Teesside, with tens of thousands more across the UK in the coming years. The agreement, which brings together leading industry players BP, Equinor, and TotalEnergies, is set to transform Teesside into a global leader in clean energy technologies.

This announcement came just days after the new Government agreed a landmark deal worth £500m to safeguard the Hitachi train factory future, protecting jobs across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool.

Further reinforcing the region’s industrial potential, MP for Redcar and Cleveland, Anna Turley hosted a major UK Steel Parliamentary Summit last week, bringing together industry leaders, trade unions, and government representatives to discuss the future of the UK steel sector with speeches from Industry leaders, Hartlepool MP and Chair of the All Part Parliamentary Group for steel, Jonathan Brash and a keynote address from Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonny Reynolds.

Following these major announcements, Tees Valley MPs, Anna Turley, Andy McDonald, Chris McDonald, Jonathan Brash, Lola McEvoy and Luke Myer, met with Jonny Reynolds, Secretary of State for Business and Trade to discuss investment in Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool - on protecting steel jobs, developing skills and ensuring opportunities for our young people - ensuring that the impact of these announcements are felt by local people.

With these deals signed, sealed, and delivered, this new Government has shown that it is serious about securing the future of Teesside and bringing jobs and investment into the region and making sure Teesside leads the way for generations to come.
