I’m delighted and honoured to announce that the Prime Minister has asked me to serve as a Government Whip in the new Labour administration.

This prestigious role carries significant responsibilities and provides a unique opportunity to contribute directly to passing much needed legislation that will positively impact lives in Redcar and Cleveland. From the New Deal for Working People, ensuring that work pays, to bringing our railways back into public ownership so our public transport serves our communities here in Redcar and Cleveland, there's a lot to look forward to.

I’ve also been appointed as the whip to the Department Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to help forge Britain’s place in the world and for the Department for Net Zero and Energy Security, helping to introduce Great British Energy which will bring down your bills.

As a Government Whip, I'll be working to ensure the effective functioning of our government, putting an end to the chaos of the last 14 years and bringing our politics back into service for working people.

I'm deeply grateful for the trust and confidence placed in me by the people of Redcar and Cleveland, and now by my colleagues in Parliament.
