Anna Turley MP secures a New Investment for Adult Social Care in Redcar & Cleveland

I am proud to announce that Labour has announced a significant investment aimed at enhancing adult social care in Redcar & Cleveland. Under the Disabled Facilities Grant, our local authority will receive £268,691 as part of a broader boost designed to support older people and those with disabilities across the region.

Immediate Benefits for Residents

This targeted funding will directly support disabled and elderly residents in Redcar & Cleveland by enabling essential home adaptations and improvements. Our goal is to help people remain safely in their homes, ensuring they continue to live with dignity, independence, and the quality of life they deserve.

Innovative Approaches to Care

A key element of this initiative is the harnessing of advanced care technology to transform how care is delivered locally. Our plans include:

• Developing a shared digital platform to ensure seamless communication between the NHS and care providers. This platform will provide up-to-date medical information, including details about when residents last took their medication, ensuring timely and effective care.

• Empowering care workers with new responsibilities, such as conducting routine health checks like blood pressure monitoring in residents’ homes. This proactive approach is designed to reduce the pressure on the NHS by minimising the need for hospital visits, keeping those NHS waiting lists to a minimum.

Enhanced Support for the Care Workforce

In addition to improving care for our residents, the investment also focuses on supporting those who deliver care. Plans include:

• Expanding employment career pathways and professional development opportunities for care workers in Redcar & Cleveland.

• Streamlining processes to cut red tape, ensuring that essential joint NHS and social care funding is used efficiently to keep people healthy.

Long-Term Reforms for Sustainable Care

While the immediate focus is on easing current pressures, the government is also laying the groundwork for long-term reform of the adult social care system. Future plans include:

• Overhauling the care system to create a National Care Service based on consistent, high-quality national standards.

• Launching an independent commission to review and rebuild the system, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of our ageing population.

This new investment marks a transformative moment for adult social care in Redcar & Cleveland. By combining immediate financial support with innovative care technology and long-term reforms, the government is taking decisive steps to ensure our disabled and elderly residents receive the care and support they need right at home.
