My Week in Westminster and Redcar – W/C 31st March
It’s been a packed and purposeful week both in Parliament and across Redcar and Cleveland — and I wanted to keep on updating what I’ve been working on for our community.
🔵 Backing Our Seaside Town
I met with Baroness Twycross, the Minister for Heritage and Gambling, to raise the urgent concerns of our local seaside arcade operators who are so important to our family fun days. These seaside businesses are part of our identity, bringing jobs, joy, and heritage to the coast — and I’ll keep pushing for the funding and support they deserve.
🔵 Celebrating Innovation in Redcar
It was a real honour to host the 20th Anniversary Reception for our innovation catapult CPI at the Palace of Westminster. I was proud to stand alongside leaders from industry, academia, and government — including companies based right here at CPI in our constituency like Calysta — to celebrate our role in driving innovation, jobs, and investment. Teesside has so much to offer, and I’ll keep making sure that message is heard loud and clear.
🔵 Green Jobs and Clean Growth
I attended a parliamentary function on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) with Alfanar and Virgin Atlantic to discuss how Teesside can lead the way in decarbonising aviation. I also joined the APPG on the Future of Aviation to meet with EasyJet, LanzaJet, and others, as they outlined their plans for SAF and hydrogen-powered flights. With LanzaJet developing a SAF facility at Wilton, I’m determined to make sure we’re at the heart of the green energy revolution.
🔵 Hydrogen: A Huge Opportunity for Teesside
I met with Clare Jackson, CEO of Hydrogen UK, to discuss the massive potential for hydrogen production in our region. Teesside can be a leader in this sector — creating new jobs and helping power a cleaner future — and I’ll keep fighting to bring those opportunities home.
🔵 Marking World Parkinson’s Day
I took part in an event in Parliament ahead of World Parkinson’s Day, where I met with campaigners and committed to raising awareness of the support needed for people living with Parkinson’s — including right here in our community. I’ll be using my platform to help amplify those voices.
🔵 Working with and for Our Community
• I held a local surgery at the Palace Hub to support residents with the issues that matter to them.
• I visited Caedmon Primary School for Schools Football Week, joined staff, students and parents for Easter activities, and saw first-hand the joy and benefits of football in schools.
• I popped into Sacred Heart Church in Redcar to see a beautiful and rare church organ in need of restoration. I promised I’d help raise awareness and shine a spotlight on this unique part of our local heritage — and I will.
It’s been a full-on week, but I’m proud of the progress we’re making — standing up for Redcar and Cleveland, driving opportunity, and protecting the things that make our community special.
As always, thank you for your support — and if there’s anything you need, you know where I am.
