From mid February, CT scans, a Cardiology department, and other testing capabilities will be available at Redcar Primary Hospital, with MRI scans arriving by the end of March.
In total, the hospital will now be able to deliver over 30,000 tests each year. This means less travel, less stress, and quicker access to the care people need, because no one should have to trek miles for vital health services. 🚑👏
Redcar’s healthcare services are set for a significant boost with the introduction of new diagnostic facilities at Redcar Primary Care Hospital. The expansion will provide residents with easier access to essential medical tests without the need to travel long distances.
Starting in February, the hospital will begin offering CT scans, a new Cardiology department, and various diagnostic tests, followed by MRI scans starting in March. Once fully operational, the facility will have the capacity to conduct over 30,000 tests annually, including ultrasound scans, X-rays, and lung function tests.
Anna Turley Member of Parliament for Redcar and Cleveland, said:
“This is fantastic news for Redcar & Cleveland. For too long, local residents have had to travel to James Cook Hospital for tests that should be available closer to home. Bringing these services to Redcar will make a real difference - reducing travel times, cutting waiting lists, and ensuring people receive timely medical care.”
“Our community deserves high-quality local healthcare, and I will continue fighting to secure the investment Redcar & Cleveland needs to improve services for everyone.”
This expansion represents a significant step forward in improving healthcare accessibility in the region, ensuring that more patients receive timely and convenient medical care.
South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will operate the new equipment, with funding provided by the Integrated Care Board.
