Thank you to everyone who contacted me about Soccer Aid and their campaign with UNICEF- unfortunately, I was unable to attend their event back in May as I had scheduling conflicts but thank you so much for bringing it to my attention. I pay tribute to UNICEF, which does such important work to support children around the world.
Our Government is committed to safeguarding and promoting the rights and wellbeing of children. To do this, it works closely with international partners, including UNICEF, to deliver better outcomes through education, health, and nutrition programmes.
In recent years, for example, the UK has helped UNICEF to provide £9.7 million worth of assistance in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. In March this year, our Government partnered with UNICEF to airlift 84,000 kg of water and sanitation supplies to support 300,000 people in Darfur. To help guarantee that grave violations against children are recorded and perpetrators are held to account, the UK has donated to UNICEF’s important Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism. It has also contributed financial support to UNICEF’s work on school rehabilitation across Syria.
Please be assured that our Government will continue to work with UNICEF and other international partners to seek better outcomes for children around the world.
